Electrical Lead – Data Centre (LV/MV Systems)

Electrical Lead to oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) electrical systems on large-scale data centre projects.

The role will take technical ownership of the electrical scope including transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, power distribution, and backup power infrastructure, ensuring works are delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.

The Electrical Lead will coordinate electrical subcontractors, manage commissioning activities, and ensure compliance with all relevant electrical regulations and certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise installation of LV/MV electrical infrastructure within the data centre environment.
• Oversee installation of:
  • MV switchgear
  • LV switchboards
  • Transformers
  • UPS systems
  • Busbar trunking systems
  • Generator interfaces
  • Power distribution units (PDUs)
• Ensure installation works comply with project specifications, drawings, and electrical standards.
• Manage and coordinate testing and commissioning activities for LV/MV systems.
• Review and approve commissioning procedures, ITPs, and method statements.
• Coordinate with commissioning engineers to complete:
  • Pre-commissioning inspections
  • Functional testing
  • Integrated system testing (IST)
• Ensure electrical systems are certified and ready for energisation.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes and standards including:
  • LV/MV electrical installation standards
  • Data centre reliability requirements (Tier standards where applicable)
• Ensure completion of required electrical certification and inspection documentation for installation and commissioning works.
• Coordinate with third-party inspectors and authorities for required approvals.

Required Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.

Candidates should hold relevant certifications for LV/MV installation and commissioning, such as:

• Authorised Person (AP) / Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for LV/MV systems
• HV/LV switching certification
• Electrical installation certification
• Commissioning certification for electrical systems
• Relevant safety certifications for high-voltage environments

Experience Required

• Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in electrical engineering or construction.
• Proven experience delivering data centre or mission-critical electrical infrastructure projects.
• Hands-on experience with:
  • MV/LV switchgear
  • Transformers
  • UPS systems
  • Generator systems
  • Critical power distribution
• Experience supervising electrical installation teams and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of commissioning processes for mission-critical facilities.
